Harold Haugrud, age 78, a resident of Barnesville, Minnesota, died on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at Lakeland Hospice House in Fergus Falls, Minnesota following a long battle with Multiple Myeloma and amyloidosis of the heart. Visitation: Sunday, July 31, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville, Minnesota. Visitation resumes one hour prior to the service at the church. Service: 11:00 a.m. " Monday, August, 2011, at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Barnesville, Minnesota Clergy: Reverend Thomas Eaves Burial: Barneville City Cemetery, Barnesville, Minnesota Harold spent his entire life in Barnesville, Minnesota. He graduated from Barnesville High School and attended Dakota Business College as a young man. On June 1, 1957 he was united in marriage to Marian Sorum at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Barnesville. In his lifetime, Harold worked as a grain buyer, an insurance salesman, and as a farmer. He built and sold many houses in Barnesville. Harold also owned and operated the Barnesville Lumber Yard for several years. He served as a city alderman for twelve years and he was a church council member. He will be remembered by many for his contributions to the community. Harold enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and spending time with his family members and friends. Staying connected with people was a high priority. Harold was a loving husband, a devoted father and a loyal and generous frienda man who enjoyed talking with and making a difference for others. For a few years in the late 1990s, Harold acted as primary caregiver in the evening for his granddaughter Liz. He gave much joy to his family over the years and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Marian; daughters, Shelly (Scott) Washburn of Plymouth, MN and Joan (Kraig) Thorson of Olathe, KS, three granddaughters, Liz Haugrud-Dollins, Michaela Thorson and Katie Washburn; his brother, Alfred Haugrud, Jr. of Barnesville, MN and his sister, Rose Korsmo of Reeder, ND. Harold was preceded in death by his infant son and daughter, parents, Alfred and Marie Haugrud, brothers, Arvid and DuVane and brother-in-law, Willard Korsmo.
