Laverne Swenson, 68, of Barnesville, MN died on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead, MN. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, May 31, 2013 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Barnesville, MN with Rev. Colin Grangaard officiating. Burial will follow in the City Cemetery, Barnesville, MN. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville, MN with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral service. Laverne Arden Swenson was born on June 23, 1944 to Bernard J. and Jane O. (Hough) Swenson in Barnesville, MN. He attended school in Barnesville and graduated in 1962. He attended Moorhead State University, and then served in the Army Reserve. He then went back to Moorhead State University getting his teaching degree in high school math. He was united in marriage to Patricia Gail Aos on April 5, 1969 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Barnesville. Laverne was a longtime educator in Barnesville, MN and taught high school math for 29 years. He also coached junior high athletics and B team girls basketball for many years. Laverne enjoyed traveling and had many summer family vacations. He enjoyed several trips and cruises with good friends. His hobbies included boating, fishing, and golfing. He enjoyed sports and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. He walked many miles around Barnesville with his faithful companion Rocky. He was a lifelong member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. He was also active in the Barnesville Lions Club. He is survived by his wife Patty, Barnesville, MN, two children: Melanie (Jon) Pearson, Barnesville, MN, Mike Swenson, Fargo, ND, two grandchildren: Aaron and Hadley Pearson, three brothers: Burton (Carol) Swenson, Gordon Lefty (Bonnie) Swenson, Carroll (Joan), all of Barnesville, MN, sister in law: Marge (Eldon) Raknerud, Hawley, MN and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
