Clarence A. Swenson

Clarence A. Swenson, 94 of Barnesville, Minnesota died Friday in his home. Funeral Service will be Wednesday at 11:00 in St. James United Church of Christ, Barnesville with Pastor Wendy Ward officiating. Rosie Carr will serve as soloist accompanied by organist Grace McEvers. Pallbearers will be Dwight Affield, Ryan Swenson, Jared Affield, LeAnn Loomis, Shaun Swenson and Shane Swenson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Arnie Swenson, Paul Oie, David Martin and Dwayne Swenson. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 " 9:00 with a prayer service at 8:00 in Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville and two hours before the service at the church. Interment will be in Mitchell Township Cemetery, Mitchell Township of Wilkin County, Minnesota. Clarence, son of Solomon and Ida (Larson) Swenson, was born January 6, 1914 in Argusville, North Dakota. He moved with his family as a young child to rural Wolverton, Minnesota where he attended school and grew to manhood. After his schooling he farmed with his family. He married Dorothy Hoel on April 12, 1941 in Wolverton. The couple made their home and farmed in Deerhorn Township of Wilkin County, Minnesota where they raised their family. They retired from farming in 1984. They continued to live on the farm until 1990 when they moved into Barnesville. Clarence lived there until the time of his death. He was a member of St. James United Church of Christ and worked many Mens Breakfasts at his church. He served on the F.H.A. Board in Wilkin County and was Chairman of the Farmers Union in Wilkin County. He worked to get telephone lines for the Wolverton area and was the County Chairman for the Democratic Party. He taught fire arm safety to children and teens and in 1995 was Senior Citizen of the Clay County Fair. Clarence enjoyed hunting, fishing, cards, going for walks, traveling and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Dorothy; two daughters, Judy (Roy Upton) Scott of Fargo and Ellen Oie of Barnesville; two sons, David (Nancy) Swenson of Saginaw, Michigan and Ronnie (Janice) Swenson of Williston, North Dakota; one daughter-in-law, Terry Lee of Berthoud, Colorado; nine grandchildren, David (Shelley) Martin of Patterson Louisiana, LeAnn Loomis of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota, Paul Oie of Jamestown, North Dakota, Carrie (Dwight) Affield of Barnesville, Shaun (Janet) Swenson of Augusta, Georgia, Sonia (Al) Hartl of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Shane Swenson of Denver Colorado, Megan Swenson of Fargo and Ryan Swenson of Casper, Wyoming; 10 great-grandchildren, Jared and Travis Affield, Caid Swenson, Caitlyn Hartl, Wyatt Olson, Nicholas, Kristina, Staci, Austin, and Blake Loomis. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Dennis who died in infancy and Jerald; six sisters and six brothers, Clara Wilbur, Anna Stach, Sigward, Ella Fankhanel, Eddy, Edward, Nora Priebe, Violet Lindberg, Morris, Ruth Kureth, Norman and Irvin.
