Marcella Mae Neumann

Marcella M. Neumann, 78 of rural Rothsay, Minnesota died Thursday in her home. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday at 11 in The Assumption Catholic Church, Barnesville, Minnesota with Fr. Gary LaMoine presiding. Phyllis Peppel will serve as cantor accompanied by organist Christie Peppel. Pallbearers will be Richard Thompson, Don Sakry, James Thompson, Rick Reep, Jim Kempfer and DuWayne Johnson. Visitation will be Monday from 4 " 8 with a prayer service at 7 in Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville and two hours before the Mass on Tuesday. Interment will be in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Barnesville. Marcella, daughter of William and Martha (Hass) Dow, was born February 20, 1930 on her family farm in Manston Township, Wilkin County, Minnesota where she attended country school and grew to womanhood. She worked in a local caf in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota as a waitress. Marcella married James Neumann on September 6, 1949 at the Assumption Catholic Church, Barnesville. The couple made their home on a farm near Rothsay where they started their family. They raised seven children and made their living by farming together. Marcella continued to live on the farm until the time of her death. She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church and the St. Anns Guild. Marcella loved gardening and watching her beautiful flowers blossom. She cherished visiting with family and friends about anything. Most importantly, Marcella loved all her grandchildren unconditionally and enjoyed seeing her family grow. She is survived by her husband, James; seven children, Steven Neumann and Thomas Neumann both of Rothsay, Kathleen (Phil) Lehn of Alexandria, Minnesota, Sandra (Darrell) Hanneman of Rothsay, Mary Marquardt of Rothsay, Peter (Carrie) Neumann of Manitowoc, Wisconsin and Paulette Neumann of Barnesville; 15 grandchildren, Amanda (Chris) Rash of Bremerton, Washington, Travis (Stacy) Neumann of Fargo, Paul Neumann of Rothsay, Chris (Katie) Lehn of Carlos, Minnesota, Theresa Lehn of Alexandria, Dawn (Curt) Klossner of Alberta, Minnesota, Joe Hanneman, Andy Hanneman and Stacie Hanneman all of Rothsay, Donny Marquardt of Rothsay, Brad (Missy) Marquardt of Rothsay, Morgan Marquardt of Fargo, Jackie Marquardt of Rothsay, Alexandra (Erik) Neumann of Hitterdahl, Minnesota and Kristin Novotny of Moorhead; four great-grandchildren, Heather and Austin Rash at home in Bremerton, Miranda Marquardt at home in Rothsay and Siri Klossner at home in Alberta. She is also survived by two brothers, Reuben (Ruth) Dow of Rothsay, Orville (Roberta) Dow of Perham; two sisters, Eleanor (Roger) Wagner of Barnesville, Rosemary (Leonard) Hatlestad of Fergus Falls, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law Mae and her father-in-law Edward, her daughter-in-law Twyla, and three brothers, Ernest, Clifford and Lawrence.
