Pearl L. Lien

March 23, 1921 — March 15, 2012

Pearl Lien, 90, Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, March 15, 2012, at her daughters home in Moorhead, MN. She was a long time resident of Downer, MN, and Cormorant Lake, MN. The daughter of Harry and Minnie (Adamson) Campbell, Pearl Lucille Campbell was born on March 23, 1921 in Minneapolis, MN. Her family moved to rural Felton, MN when she was nine. She attended school in Felton until her junior year. She then attended the campus high school at Moorhead State Teachers College before returning to Felton to graduate from high school in 1939. She received her teaching certificate at Moorhead State Teachers College in 1941 and then taught for a number of years in rural schools near Downer. Later in life she was a substitute teacher in the Barnesville and Felton school districts. She also worked eleven years as bookkeeper for Mainline Potato Company in Downer. Pearl married Lawrence Lien of Downer on July 3, 1943 in Bossier City, LA. They raised four children in Downer. In 1986 they moved to Lake Cormorant and to Moorhead in 1997. Lawrence died in 1998. She had made her home with her daughter Pam since 2003. Pearl was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Downer (which later became the Baker-Downer Westminster Presbyterian Church). She held various offices of the church and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a member of Presbyterian Women, and the Moorhead VFW Auxiliary. She served as clerk of Elkton Township. For many years she volunteered at the Island Park Activity Center and Elim Care Center, Fargo, and Eventide Senior Living Communities, Moorhead. She served as president of Senior Connections, Moorhead. Everything in life was of interest to Pearl. She loved to be outdoors tending flower beds and vegetable gardens and bird watching; she was a voracious reader, particularly of historical novels; she always was open to new friendships; and dearly loved young people and their enthusiasm for life.
