Neil S. Barry, 86 of rural Barnesville, Minnesota died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 in his home. Neil, son of Irwin and Anne (Alm) Barry, was born June 24, 1922 on his family farm near Downer, Minnesota. He was raised on a grain and potato farm and grew to manhood in the Barnesville"Downer area, attending Barnesville High School. He graduated from Barnesville High School in 1941. He worked on the family farm until 1947 when he entered the U.S. Army, serving with the 82nd Airborne. Neil was Honorably Discharged in 1950 and returned to the Barnesville area. He married JoAnn Gantzer on March 29, 1951 in St. Josephs Catholic Church, Moorhead. They moved to the family farm in 1952 where he raised potatoes, grain and sugar beets, retiring in 1986. They continued to live on the farm. For a number of years Neil worked for the Dobmeier Funeral Home and was a welcome addition to their staff. Neil continued to live on the farm until the time of his death. He was a member of The Assumption Catholic Church in Barnesville and the Knights of Columbus. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 153 of Barnesville and a past post commander. He was also involved with America Legion baseball in Barnesville. Neil enjoyed golfing. He also loved his farm and enjoyed everything from gardening to yard work. One of the joys of Neils life was his grandchildren and family was everything to him. He is survived by his wife Jo Ann; five children, Barbara Barry of rural Barnesville, Steven (Darcy) Barry of rural Barnesville, Mary Kay Barry of Fargo, Kevin Barry of St. Cloud, Minnesota and Kent Barry of rural Barnesville; eight grandchildren, Jordan, Daniel, Levi, Jacob, Timothy Patrick, Tyler and Caitlyn; three great-grandchildren, Skylar, Jace and Maison. Neil is preceded in death by his infant son, Patrick; his parents, Anne and Irwin; three brothers, Glenn, Robert and Dale, and his sister, Etta. Visitation: Sunday from 4:00 " 8:00 with a prayer service at 7:00 in Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville and two hours before Mass on Monday. Funeral Mass: Monday at 11:00 in the Assumption Catholic Church, Barnesville. Interment: St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Barnesville. www.dobmeierfuneralhome
