Norman E Lien

Norman E. Lien, 82 of Sabin, Minnesota died Tuesday, December 8, 2009 in his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Norman, son of Christian and Clara (Jensen) Lien was born February 18, 1927 in Downer, Minnesota where he attended country school and grew to manhood. He also attended Barnesville High School. In 1944 he joined the U.S. Navy where he served on the U.S.S. Siboney in the South Pacific during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned to the Downer area. He married Olive Olson on March 11, 1950 in Horace, North Dakota. They made their home in Downer before moving to Seattle, Washington where he was employed at Boeing Aircraft. They returned to Downer and later to Sabin where they lived for over 50 years. Norman worked for Kost Brothers, Midwest Excavating, Henry Brothers Excavating, Asplin Excavating and later started his own business, F"M Excavating also known as Big Dipper Excavating. He retired in 1989. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Sabin, the American Legion Post 1223 and the V.F.W. Post 21 of Moorhead, Minnesota. His hobbies included gardening, woodworking, especially making decoys, hunting, fishing and golfing. He is survived by his wife, Olive of Sabin; three daughters, Cheryl Lura of Sabin, Judy (Steve) Rosenfeldt also of Sabin, and Bonnie Major of Clearwater, Florida; four sons, Tom (Marna) Lien of Crystal Lake, Minnesota, Wayne (Corinne) Lien, Randy Lien and Curtis Lien all of Moorhead; 15 grandchildren, Michelle Tomlin of Largo, Florida, Jenne Lura of Clearwater, Florida, Tammy (Casey) Olson of Owatonna, Minnesota, Nicole (Jason) Bolstad of Fargo, Jody Lien of Fargo, Eric (Jody) Lien of Fergus Falls, Nathan (Kristi Mead and her daughter Haily Merchant) Lien of Fergus Falls, Ryan (Bridgette) Rosenfeldt of Fargo, Lora (Aaron) Rosenfeldt of Richmond, Minnesota, Mandy (Jake) Wortock, Melissa Johannes, and Ashley Major all of Clearwater, Florida, Cassie Lien of San Marcos, Texas, Brianna Lien and Alec Lien both of Moorhead; 18 great-grandchildren, Anthony, Lacey and Kelley Belcastro, Cody Carlson, Nora Lien, J.J. Hanson, Bailey and Graedon Rosenfeldt. He is also survived by one brother Alfred Lien of Barnesville, one sister-in-law, Pearl Lien Lawrence of Moorhead and many special nieces and nephews. Norman is preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Chet, Walt, James, Lawrence, David, and Arnie; two sisters, Evelyn Lenz and Berniece Olesberg. We, the family of Norman Lien would like to recognize Judy Knutson of the VA Palliative Care Unit for her invaluable help and kindness. A special thanks to Al and Jeanette Lien and Jerry Lura. Visitation: Friday from 5:00"8:00 with a prayer service at 7:00 in Trinity Lutheran Church, Sabin. Funeral Service: Saturday at 11:00 in Trinity Church.
