Visitation: Sunday, May 1, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Dobmeier Funeral Home, Barnesville, Minnesota. Visitation resumes one hour prior to the service at the church. Service: 2:00 p.m. " Monday, May 2, 2011, at St. James United Church of Christ, Barnesville, Minnesota Shirley Simpson, age 75, a resident of Barnesville, Minnesota, died on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society in Barnesville, Minnesota. Shirley Ann Johnson was born January 3, 1936, in Fargo, North Dakota, to Oscar and Ella (Winjum) Johnson. She graduated from Barnesville High School. Shirley was united in marriage to Byron Raknerud on December 15, 1953. Shirley worked in management positions at Ridleys Office Equipment in Moorhead and was a successful real estate agent in Devils Lake. She met and married Gooder Simpson in Oklahoma. They moved to Barnesville in 1990. Shirley was a member of St. James United Church of Christ, the Womens Guild and the American Legion Auxiliary. Gooder and Shirley spent their winters in Arizona and traveled throughout the United States. She moved into the Barnesville Good Samaritan Society after suffering a stroke in 2008. Shirley had an open door policy and welcomed anyone into her home and heart. She liked going out to lunch and shopping. Shirley enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending many of their activities. She loved gardening. She was charitable in giving to various organizations. Shirley is survived by her son, Scott (Heather) Jerald of Barnesville, daughter-in-law Tina Jerald, Oklahoma, sister Janet (Larry) Rogers, Barnesville, 6 grandchildren, Lindsey Jerald, Tracy Jerald and Owen Jerald, Adam Lee, Christopher Lee, Sean Jerald; 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Ella; husbands, Byron Raknerud and Gooder Simpson; and son, Kent.
