James Motschenbacher, age 78, of Sabin, MN, died on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at ClayCo Nursing Home in Barnesville, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Assumption Catholic Church in Barnesville, MN with Father Gary LaMoine officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Marys Cemetery, Barnesville, MN. Military Honors will be provided by the Barnesville American Legion and VFW Color Guard. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Wednesday. James Arthur Motschenbacher was born on May 3, 1935 to Walter Hubert and Viola Marie (McCrady) Motschenbacher in Moorhead, MN. He grew up and lived almost his whole life in Sabin, MN. He attended country school and Moorhead High School. He served in the US Army beginning in 1958 and was stationed in Korea following the war in the Occupation Forces. He returned home to Sabin following his service and worked for area farmers for many years including the Krabbenhofts and Rodney Schmidt Farms. Later in life he also worked for the City of Sabin operating equipment and running the recycling center. Jim loved to fish. He also enjoyed many games of pinochle and whist. Jim is survived by two sisters: Maxine Schmidt of Moorhead, MN, and Marjorie Erickson of Pelican Rapids; one sister in law Vivian Motschenbacher of Kennerwich, WA; one daughter Jamie Motschenbacher, and 21 nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Dorothy Soland, four brothers: Lawrence, Leroy, Charles, and Duane, and a nephew Phillip Soland.
