Burial: Rollag Lutheran Cemetery Orpha V. Anderson, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota formerly of Rollag, passed away Tuesday, October 04, 2011 at her home in Pelican Rapids. Orpha Vendla Johnson was born on December 1, 1913 on the family farm in Cromwell Township, rural Hawley to Hans and Petra (Solum) Johnson. She moved with her family to a farm south of Rollag where she attended country schools. During her high school years she attended Northwest Agriculture School in Crookston. She married Kenneth Anderson at her parents home near Rollag on June 26, 1934. Orpha and Kenneth established their home on a farm near Rollag until 1939 when they moved to the Solum homestead where her parents and grandparents had resided. They farmed for many years. Kenneth died on March 17, 1974. In December 1975 Orpha moved to Pelican Rapids where she made her home for the 35 years. She was a member of Rollag Lutheran Church and an active member of the Ladies Aide for many years. Orpha truly enjoyed Pastor Jim Greene and treasured the many visits they enjoyed together over the years. Orpha was dedicated to her family and found pride in both the large and small accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was strong in her beliefs and genuine about her feelings. Orpha was well-known as a good cook and for her recipes that only she could get right. She also enjoyed visiting while sharing a good meal that invariably included potatoes. Friends were very dear to Orpha and she spent much time with them traveling, dancing, fishing and playing whist. There was nothing like a good joke or story to get her eyes sparkling and her shoulders shaking with laughter. Orpha is survived by her children: Donna (Ed) Griffin, Clermont, FL, Kermit (Violet), Herbert (JoAnn) both of Rollag, Minnesota. 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Hans (Gladys) Johnson, Spokane, Washington; sister-in-laws: Helen Gail Mangold, Colorado, Jean Johnson, Florida, Ethel Turner, California. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; granddaughter, Kristine Griffin; great-granddaughter, Erin Anderson; brothers Leon, Harvey, and Burtrum; and special friend, Art Sundblad.
