Gertrude Weyrauch

November 26, 1919 — June 30, 2012

Gertrude Gertie Weyrauch, age 92, of Barnesville, Minnesota, formally of Ray, North Dakota passed away Saturday June 30th 2012 at Eventide Lutheran Nursing Home in Moorhead, Minnesota after a long courageous battle with an illness. Mary Gertrude Elizabeth Daniel was born in Ray, North Dakota on November 26th 1919 to Matthew and Cecelia (Hickel) Daniel. Gertie grew up in Ray and graduated from Ray High School in 1938. She worked in area restaurants and as a telephone operator. On October 17th 1940 Gertie was united in marriage to Derald H. Weyrauch . They made their home on a farm south of Ray where they farmed until Derald entered the U.S. Army in 1942. After the war they returned to farming until 1950 when they moved into Ray. From 1958 to 1974 Derald and Gertie owned and operated the Snow White Drive Inn in Ray. It was a very popular place with Gertie making several menu items from scratch. After selling the Snow White Gertie worked at Ray School and Rhode Funeral Home. She and Derald moved to Barnesville in 1999. Gertie was active in the altar society at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Ray and Assumption Catholic Church in Barnesville. She also participated in band boosters for Ray High School, the American Legion Auxiliary, and Ray Senior Citizens Gertie enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, and playing solitaire on the computer. Gertie was spunky and outgoing, making friends very easily. Gertie is survived by her children: Dorothy Weyrauch of Barnesville, Minnesota; Richard (Kristi) Weyrauch of Fargo, North Dakota; and Janice (Terry) Skunberg of rural Barnesville, Minnesota; Grandchildren: Matthew Skunberg of Fargo, North Dakota; Kayla Skunberg (Andrew Elliott) of Galesburg, North Dakota; Elizabeth Lee (Michael Wilke) of Cando, North Dakota and Erik Weyrauch of Fargo, North Dakota. Great Granddaughters: McKenna and Madilyn Wilke of Cando, North Dakota. Gertie was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Derald; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Marvin Towberman; parents, Matthew and Cecelia Daniel; sister, Trace Lind and brother, Walter Daniel. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Go rest high on that mountain. Funeral Mass: 11:00 am, Thursday, July 5, 2012 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Ray, North Dakota. Ray Visitation: One hour prior to services in the church with a Rosary Service beginning at 10:00 am. Barnesville Visitation: Will be at the Dobmeier Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm with a 7:00 pm Prayer Service. The Dobmeier Funeral Home of Barnesville and the Fulkerson Funeral Home of Tioga, North Dakota are assisting the family with arrangements.
