Elroy Elton Hegdahl

Elroy Hegdahl, 71, of Barnesville, died on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at the ClayCo Care Center in Barnesville. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Barnesville, MN with Rev. Colin Grangaard officiating. Burial will follow in City Cemetery, Barnesville. Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM, Monday, May 19, 2014, at Dobmeier Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Elroy Elton was born on October 20, 1942, to Engvald and Anna (Olson) Hegdahl in Bottineau, ND. He was baptized and confirmed. They lived in Kathryn, ND before moving to Barnesville in 1953. He graduated from Barnesville High School with the class of 1961. Following high school Elroy entered in the US Navy. He served on the USS Kearsarge. While in the Navy, he met his future wife Patricia J. Worrel, while being stationed in Long Beach, CA. They were married on June 15, 1964. Following his honorable discharge from the service, they continued to live in Long Beach, California. His wife Patricia died in 1970. Following that, the family moved to Barnesville. Elroy worked at several jobs including: auto mechanic, electrical motors, tractor repair, janitorial work for the city of Barnesville, MSU and Northern Plains Steel. Elroy enjoyed ham radio and loved model trains. He spent lots of time driving around the country side looking around at the country. He also liked electronics and computers. He loved family gatherings and the times together. He looked forward to church every Sunday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. He was a life member of the VFW. Elroy is survived by one son: Buddy (Stacie) Hegdahl; three granddaughters: Kendra (Josh) Julsrud; Kathryn Hegdahl, and Kyanna Hegdahl; one great grandson, Winston Julsrud, all of Barnesville. Also surviving Elroy are one sister, Sherry (Thomas) Lawrence of Rochester, MN; and two sisters-in-law, Nita Fuchs, of Ahwahnee, CA, and Dorothy Hegdahl of Valley City, ND; niece, Dawn (Jeff) Delude; three nephews: James (Deb) Hegdahl, Peter (Brenda) Lawrence, and Michael (JoAnn) Lawrence. Elroy was preceded in death by his wife Patricia, his parents, and one brother, Ray Hegdahl.
