Kenneth D Maesse

Kenneth Maesse, 82, died on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Eventide Nursing Home in Moorhead, MN with his family by his side after a long courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Baker -Downer Westminster Presbyterian Church in Baker, MN with Pastor Loralee Benz officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in Elmwood Cemetery, rural Sabin, MN. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral service. Kenneth Deane Maesse was born on June 8, 1932, at home on the family farm in rural Baker, MN to Ernest and Mabel (McCarl) Maesse. Kenneth grew up in Baker, MN where he attended 8 years of country school, and then graduated from Barnesville High School in 1950. After graduating, he farmed with his dad and then joined the US Army. He served his country for two years, from 1953 to 1955. He was stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington and served a tour in Korea. On June 21, 1952, Kenneth married Helen Ione Krogh at Hegland Lutheran Church in Hawley, MN. After the Army, they built their home in Baker, MN and raised a family of eight children. He worked for TF Powers Construction Company then Howard Roofing Company. He started his own construction company named Maesse Roofing and Construction with the help from all of his sons. In 2000, they built their retirement home in Moorhead. Kenneth built a lake home on Middle Cormorant Lake where he enjoyed socializing with friends Cliff and Babe Johnson, Maynard and Dianne Asleson, Don and Lorraine Stumbo. He also fished, played pinochle and whist. In the later years, Ken enjoyed gardening, canning his "famous" hot pickles, and woodworking. He is survived by his wife, Helen, Moorhead, 8 children: LuAnn, Denver, CO, Kevin (Sandy), Wolverton, MN, Tim (Val), Barnesville, MN, Kenwood, Barnesville, MN, LaVaye (Tom) Dressen, Bemidji, MN, Todd (Shelly), Lino Lakes, MN, Brian (Janet), Ulen, MN, Brent (Tammy), Baker, MN; 19 grandchildren: Jeremy (Beth), Jason (Tracy) Angela, Lila, Dusty, Jessica, Tim Jr., Brandon, Matt, John, Hannah, Tyler, Kayla, Alyssa, Griffin, Tate, Kaitlyn, Kimberly, and Jack, 6 great grandchildren: Mallory, Olivia, Jake, Gabe, Gage, and Hunter, one brother Rodney (Kay), Fargo, ND, two sisters: Gloria Schenck, Baker, MN, Marlys Schenck, Moorhead, MN, and several nieces and nephews.
