Gerald Ames

Gerald "Jerry" Ames, 75, of West Fargo, ND, formerly of Barnesville, MN died on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, November 28, 2014 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Barnesville, MN. Burial will follow in City Cemetery, Barnesville, MN. Visitation will be held 1-2 PM, Friday at the church. Gerald Daniel Ames was born on April 17, 1939 to Cecil and Linnie Maude (Cole) Ames in Portland, Maine. He grew up in Maine where he attended school before he served his country in the Marines for two years and then in the Air Force for two years. He was stationed in Paris Island, South Carolina. While he was stationed in Grand Forks, he met Bev Schock and they were married in 1962. To this union three daughters were born, Terisa, April, and Danielle. Jerry worked for Kmart Automotive for many years moving around the country. They settled in Barnesville in 1980, where Jerry and Bev managed the Amoco and Barnesville Inn. Then in 1986, they started their own Service Station in downtown Barnesville known as Jerry's Service. They ran this station for many years. He also added on a storage unit to the back of the building. He married LaVerne "Vernie" Verville on June 14, 2002, in Barnesville. They made their home in West Fargo, ND. Jerry was a member of the Lion's Club and served on the Barnesville City Council. He enjoyed weekends at the lake and golfing. Jerry loved car shows and could spend hours looking at the old iron. Jerry's passion was to work and missed it after his health failed, but Jerry didn't let his illness slow him down. He knitted many scarves, and sewed purses, afghans, and hats. Jerry also enjoyed painting. He is survived by his wife Vernie, West Fargo, ND; three daughters: Terisa (David) Ohnstad, Durbin, ND, April (Jason Huso), Stolt, Fargo, ND, and Danielle Roy, Waubun, MN; step children: Sheri (Hershel) Burden, Fort Meyers, FL, Tammy Nickelson, Fort Meyers, FL, Scott (Parvin) Wallum, Fountain Hills, AZ, and Todd Wallum, West Fargo, ND; 8 grandchildren: Cole Ohnstad, Corbin Stolt, Connor Stolt, Zander Huso, Megan Roy, Morgan Roy, Kaitlyn Roy and Lexi Mikovich. Jerry is also survived by five siblings: Arthur (Rita) Portland, ME, Charlie (Xenia) Ames, Hollywood, FL, Cecil (Linda) Ames, Portland, ME, Sharon (Jim) Byrnes, Portland ME, and Lillian Nevers, Portland, ME.
