Elsie Thompson, 85, died Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Palliative Care in Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND with her family at her side. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Rollag Lutheran Church, Rollag, MN with Rev. Jim Greene officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN. Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM, Friday, February 6, 2015 at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville, MN with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Elsie Eileen Schnitzer was born on September 29, 1929 to Charles and Annie (Stanforth) Schnitzer in Erie Township, Becker County, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. She attended school and grew up in the area. Elsie worked for Henry & Marian Wieck in Detroit Lakes. She was married to Orville Schloesser on September 24, 1950. They lived in Callaway, MN for 5 years, and she helped in the Schloesser Store. While living in Callaway, they had two children, Mark and Doreen. They moved to St. Peter, MN for 18 months, while her husband was transferred in the Minnesota State Highway Patrol. They then lived in Mankato, MN where Karen was born. They lived in Dilworth, and then lived in Moorhead from 1958 to 1973. They were members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. During their time in Moorhead a daughter DeVon was born. Elsie worked for St. Ansgar Hospital for five years. Her husband Orville died in 1973. Elsie was united in marriage to Arvid Thompson on April 7, 1977 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Moorhead. They lived on the farm in rural Barnesville for a couple of years before moving into town. Elsie was a member of Rollag Lutheran Church and a served as Chair of the Miriam Circle. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Barnesville. Elsie enjoyed sewing, painting, and reading. She is survived by her husband Arvid, Barnesville, MN; two daughters: Doreen Pastian, Reynoldsburg, OH; Karen (Edward) Fitzpatrick, Billerica, MA; and a daughter-in-law Ann Schloesser, St. Cloud, MN; Arvid's children: Ronald (Stephanie) Thompson, Prescott, AZ; Catherine (Jon) Tufte, Fargo, ND; Daniel (Judy) Thompson, Barnesville; daughter-in-law, Ivy Tysver, Barnesville; son-in-law, Kevin Burke, Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Jon Schloesser, Sara Schloesser, Torrey, Ben, and Sami Pastian, Edward (April) Fitzpatrick, Theresa (Tyler) Harlston, Aidan Fitzpatrick, Holly Woodburn, Dean Thompson, DeVi Burke, Justin (Gina Cusak) Burke, Jay (Sarah) Tufte, Kelly (Geoff) Miller, Jason (Tanya Martinson) Thompson, Tonya (Brandon) Anderson, Shelly Thompson, Jacob (Kari) Thompson, Nathan (Jenny) Thompson and Cami (Justin) Gilbertson; 16 great grandchildren; brother Alfred (Marlene) Schnitzer, Detroit Lakes, MN; sister-in-law, Janice Schnitzer, Detroit Lakes; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Preceded in death by her parents; first husband Orville Schloesser; son Mark Schloesser; daughter, DeVon Schloesser; step-daughter DelRae Burke; step-son David Thompson; brother Carl Schnitzer; and sister Dorothy (Harold) Erickson.
