Thomas Markert, 56, of Moorhead, died at his residence in Moorhead on Friday, March 20, 2015. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville with Rev. Jim Greene officiating. Burial will follow in Rosemound Cemetery. Tom was the seventh of eight children. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. He grew up in south Moorhead, and attended school and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1977. Tom worked for FM News and the Horsley Specialties Asbestos Abatement Company during his lifetime. He enjoyed spending family time at Meadow Lake Campground and Lake Labelle. He was fond of his nieces and nephews, and most recently hearing stories or seeing his great nieces and nephews. He would lend a hand or pitch in whenever tasks needed to be completed. Swimming at Island Park Pool was a favorite summer pastime. He set his schedule around sporting events; listening to the Twins game, watching his favorite Vikings team, or cheering on the NDSU Bison. His Manor man-cave would verify his passion for the Vikings, everywhere you looked was Vikings purple. He is survived by two brothers and four sisters, Curtis (Gayle) Markert of Mahnomen, MN, Robert (Susan) Markert of Fargo, sister in law Nitaya Markert of Clarksville, TN, Patricia Rene of Hastings, MN, Rebecca (Jeff) Frischman of Lake Worth, FL, Jennifer (Pete) Werner of Hastings, MN, Dawn (Jerry) Envik of Moorhead, MN, 17 nieces and nephews and 19 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parent Donald and Annette Markert, brother Dennis, brother in law Wendell Rene, and one niece Stacy Werner.
