June 19, 2015 POSTPONED SERVICE SUSAN'S MEMORIAL SERVICE HAS BEEN POSTPONED INDEFINATELY. MIKE CONTINUES TO ASK FOR YOUR PRAYERS FOR HIS HEALING. Susan McEvers was born on February 13, 1949 to James and Kathleen McEvers. She grew up on a farm near Baker, MN. She attended Assumption School until 8th grade and graduated from Barnesville High School in 1967. She attended Moorhead State College from 1967 to 1971 earning a BA degree in Political Science and a BS degree in economics. In 1972, she also earned a secondary education degree. Susan met Michael Thompson in a Political Science class and it was 45 years to the day when they met to when she passed. After their marriage on June 30, 1973, they moved to Minot, ND where she worked for American Federal Savings & Loan and later at Investment Realty. In February 1978, they moved to Grand Forks, ND she worked at Midwest Federal in Grand Forks and American Savings & Loan in East Grand Forks until 1982. She left American Federal to pursue a nursing degree at the College of Nursing at the University of North Dakota graduating in 1985 with her BSN. Upon graduation, she joined the United Hospital group for a year before being recruited by Grand Forks Clinic Mammography department. During her years at Grand Forks Clinic, she was chosen as the eastern North Dakota American Cancer Society representative. She believed deeply in her work as she had suffered her first bout with cancer while in nursing school. It gave her a very personal testimony to those she served in the importance of those exams. Following her desire to live in a warmer climate and be near her sister and family, Susan and Michael moved to Stockbridge/McDonough, Ga., area where she worked at Henry Medical Hospital from October 2004 to November 2008, when her cancer metastatic stage 4 bone cancer was diagnosed. After treatments, she remained somewhat active chasing our little nephews around and going to their baseball, soccer and basketball games. An avid sports fan, she read the sports page every day and kept Michael up to date on important events. She kept busy with her flowers around the house which she kept going year round. She also spent many years on Lake of the Woods fishing for walleyes and enjoying the many friends she had at the lake. She is survived by her husband Michael, McDonough, Georgia, brother Jim (Lisa) McEvers, West Fargo, ND, three sisters: Mary (Steve) Ladwig, of Republic, MO, Jane McEvers, of Eagan, MN, and Donna (Jim) Komestakes, of Stockbridge, GA; several nieces and nephews, other family and friends. Susan was preceded in death by her parents James and Kathleen McEvers. Susan was a constant caregiver to family and friends. On August 9th, 2014 the Homestead Hospice group joined Mike in caring for her until Jesus came to take her home, where there is no more suffering or pain on Wednesday, May 20, 2015.
