Alfred Haugrud

Alfred "Fred" Haugrud, age 79, a resident of Barnesville died on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Essentia Hospital in Fargo. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, October 12, 2015 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Barnesville, MN with Rev. Chris Leach officiating. Burial will follow in Little Bethany Cemetery, rural Barnesville. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM, Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Dobmeier Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Alfred David Haugrud Jr was born on May 6, 1936 to Alfred and Marie (Siggerud) Haugrud in Barnesville, MN. He grew up and attended school at the District 19 Country School and then graduated from Barnesville High School in 1954. Shortly after high school, he served his country in the US Army as an MP. He returned home to Minnesota and married Deloris Erickson on June 10, 1961 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids, MN. Following their wedding, they moved to rural Rothsay until moving to Barnesville in 1965. Also during his working years he worked at the Elevator in Barnesville, and for many years he worked at the Post Office in Moorhead before retiring in 1992. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Barnesville. Fred was devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a man of few words, with strong convictions, and a deep love of family. Fred found great enjoyment in snowmobiling and was forever souping up their engines in an effort to one up the competition. He was a lifelong farmer in rural Barnesville where he cared for and tended the land. Never happier than on a tractor, he had no intention of ever stopping farming and was already making plans for the next planting season. A farmer to the end, he harvested his last crop this Fall. Fred is survived by his children: Kari (Jeff) Ferris of Fargo, ND, Kevin (Annette) Haugrud of Detroit Lakes, MN and Kelly (Cindy) Haugrud of Rothsay, MN; 7 grandchildren: Chase (Katie) Ferris, Kylee (Scott) Brightside, Colten Ferris, Heidi (Jim) Mertens, Connor Haugrud, Brandon Haugrud, and Matthew Haugrud; one sister Rose Korsmo of Reeder; ND; sisters-in-law Marion Haugrud, Barnesville, MN, Arlene Haugrud, Elizabeth, MN, and Katie Haugrud, Underwood, MN. He is also survived by several in laws, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Deloris in 2014, brothers, Arvid, DuVane, and Harold, and brother-in-law Willard Korsmo. Fred Haugrud Funeral Folder
