Christie Herbranson

August 16, 1947 — February 10, 2016

Following a beautiful bedside service, Christie Herbranson died peacefully on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016, after a very long battle with Alzheimer's disease.        Graveside service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, in Rollag Lutheran Church Cemetery, Rollag, Minn. A memorial service in Texas is being planned by the family at a later date.        Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in her memory to The Alzheimer's Association.           Kris was born Aug. 16, 1947, in Detroit Lakes, Minn., to Leslie Lovold and Hazel Anderson Lovold. Kris attended Lake Park High School, graduating in 1965. She then attended Moorhead State College and graduated with a degree in elementary education in 1968. Upon graduation, she taught school in the Fergus Falls Independent School District.         On July 19, 1969, she married Dennis Herbranson. They first lived in Wells, Minn., where she taught in the elementary school. They then moved to several different places in Texas, Nevada and New Mexico while Dennis was in the U.S. Air Force. Later, they moved to Des Moines, Iowa, and Kris taught junior high math at Altoona. In 1980 they moved to Arlington. Over the next 22 years she taught junior high math in the Arlington Independent School District and the Grand Prairie Independent School District, where she was chosen Teacher of the Year and participated in the Texas State Teacher of the Year Program.   Kris was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Children were a very large part of her life. Students from years past would always greet her if they saw her. She also loved being with her two daughters and six grandchildren. She was a remarkable cook and enjoyed hosting dinners with friends and family. An avid walker before illness took her, she walked five miles daily. She loved to travel throughout the U.S. and over a dozen countries worldwide. Her favorite trip was to Norway and Sweden where she visited the old farms of her great-grandparents.        The family wishes to express gratitude to the staff of Arden Courts in Arlington, Isle at Watercrest in Mansfield, and to Envoy Hospice for their loving care of Kris.   Kris was preceded in death by her parents.           Survivors: Husband, Dennis Herbranson; daughters, Tracey (Bill) Beckwith of Mooresville, N.C., and Cindy (Andrew) Howland of Arlington; and six grandchildren, Riley and Reece Beckwith and Jacob, Joshua, Ashley and Colby Howland. She is also survived by her brother, Larry (Cheryl) Lovold of The Villages, Fla.; sister, Cathie (Al) Glaeseman of Alexandria, Minn.; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
