Esther Heggen

Esther Heggen, 102, Fergus Falls, MN, formerly of Barnesville, MN died on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls.  Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM, Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Hope Lutheran Brethren Church in Barnesville with Pastors Kevin Skaret and Jeff Seaver officiating.  Burial will follow in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery, Rothsay, MN.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Sunday.  Esther Karina Huseby was born on April 22, 1914 the daughter of Andrew and Marie (Narum) Huseby in Tansem Township, Clay County, MN.  She attended school in District #14.  After growing up she did housework in the surrounding area.  In 1940, she went to Detroit, MI to work as a maid or nanny and moved with that family to Cleveland, OH.  A few years later, she entered the Ohio School of Practical Nursing in Cleveland and graduated in 1945.  A year later she returned to Detroit where she took her state board exams and received her LPN license.  She continued working at nursing in private homes, hospitals, and nursing homes, retiring in 1981.  She returned to MN and on June 13 of that year she married Raymond Heggen at the Barnesville Lutheran Brethren Church.  They lived on the farm until December of 1985 when they moved to Barnesville. In Detroit she was active in the The Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches, serving as Sunday School teacher, church treasurer, and worked with the Pioneer Girls.  She was also active in the Christian Business and Professional Women’s Council of the Stonecroft Ministries.  After she was married she also joined the Gideon Auxiliary of the Breckenridge Camp.  She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond in 1995, granddaughter in law Deb Johnson, she had six sisters, Clara Stonsteng, Julia Tennyson, Ella Sand, Rena Skogen, Selma Riveland, and Cora Haarstad, five brothers, Albert, Clifford, Emil, Delphin, and Oliver.  She is survived by step daughter Darlene (Norris) Johnson, Pelican Rapids, MN, three grandchildren: Todd (Diane) Johnson and his family Mandy (Aaron) Haggin, Jeffrey Johnson, Troy Mulder, Amy (Tanner) Auch, Emma and Caleb, Stacy (Eric) Kemerling, and Ethan; granddaughter Linda (Dean) Seaver and her family Sandra (Dave) Berggren and Makenna, Nick (Amanda) Seaver, Logan and Addison, Lyndsey (Tom) Steele, and Porter, Erin Seaver;  granddaughter Kathie (Jeff) Seaver and her family, Andrew Seaver, Laura (Josh) Erickson, Caleb and Levi and Micah, Elizabeth (Max) Johnson, and Norah and Joe Seaver.  One sister in law Helen (Oliver) Huseby, many nieces and nephews. Memorial suggestions would include The Gideons, Lakeland Hospice, and the Hope Lutheran Brethren Church.
