Brodie Drew Gilbertson

Brodie Drew Gilbertson was born on May 27, 2007, in Fargo, ND to Vanessa Gilbertson. He grew up in Moorhead and attended Robert Asp Elementary School and one year at Horizon Middle School before moving to West Fargo. He then attended Cheney Middle School in West Fargo and started his 9th grade year at West Fargo High School.

Brodie had a passion for the outdoors and hunting. He was a junior instructor with the North Dakota Game and Fish Hunter Safety Program. Brodie was the youngest volunteer at the Red River Regional Marksmanship Center. Within the last year, he joined the West Fargo Police Cadet Program, where he had attained the status of Corporal and named as the Cadet of the Year. He treasured being a part of the Cadets. He had the heart of a volunteer who wanted to give back and always thought about others. He volunteered serving food with his mom at the Salvation Army, along with other volunteer activities.

Brodie loved spending time with his pets Mara and Toby. They would spend a lot of time laying with him. He received Mara when he was first diagnosed with cancer and Mara became a true companion. Brodie will be remembered as inclusive and caring to those around him.

Brodie is survived by his mother, Vanessa Gilbertson, of West Fargo, ND; grandparents, Jackie Gilbertson of Moorhead, MN and Howard (Tammie) Gilbertson of West Fargo, ND; great grandmother, Eleanor Deeton of Baker, MN; aunt, Ashley (Ben Cassidy) Gilbertson of Rochester, MN; great uncles, Glen (Heidi) Deeton, John (Deb) Gilbertson, Ed (Patty) Gilbertson and Dennis (Beth) Gilbertson; and numerous cousins and his brothers and sisters in Blue.

He was preceded in death by great grandparents, Harvey and Joyce Gilbertson and Clifford Deeton, and great uncles, Bruce and Leslie Gilbertson.

Brodie passed away on Good Friday, April 15, 2022, from his 186 day battle with leukemia in Fargo at Sanford Children’s Hospital, surrounded by his family and friends from the West Fargo Police Cadets.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM, Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville, MN. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Barnesville, MN with Pastor Lorelee Benz officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Barnesville where Brodie will be buried near his family. #BravelikeBrodie
