Cathy Mackner

Cathy Mackner, 72, died on Sunday, September 13, 2020, at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Memorial Service will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 17, 2020, at Assumption Catholic Church with Rev. Chris Leach officiating. Burial will follow in City Cemetery, Barnesville. Following the burial service all are invited to McGrath Park in Barnesville for a time of food and fellowship.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 5-8 PM at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville.

Catherine Diane Mackner was born on March 28, 1948, to Clinton Doug Sandin and Norma Aileen (Holcomb) in Arlington, VA. As a young girl, her family moved home to Detroit Lakes, MN where she attended school and graduated in 1966. She then attended St. Cloud State and graduated with a teaching degree. On October 23, 1971, Cathy was united in marriage to Roger Bruce Mackner in Detroit Lakes, MN. She taught on the East Coast for a few years, before returning to Minnesota and making a home in Barnesville.

Cathy worked at Braaten Accounting Ltd in Barnesville for the past 40 years. She was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Barnesville, including the quilters, WELCA, bible studies, Sunday School Teacher, and Confirmation Mentor. She enjoyed traveling and camping, and spent the last 16 winters in Texas. Her family was first and foremost, and she shared a unique bond with her grandchildren.

Cathy is survived by her husband Roger Mackner, Barnesville, MN; two children: Brian (Michelle Alm) Mackner, West Fargo, ND; and Amy (Sam) Gross, Maple Grove, MN; four grandchildren: Taeana Mackner, Bismarck, ND; Arian Mackner, Grand Forks, ND; Jocelyn Gross and Harrison Gross, Maple Grove, MN; and one sister Donna (Rollie) Greeno, Apple Valley, MN; and several nieces and nephews, other relative and friends.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents Doug and Norma Sandin, one sister Patricia Sandin, and an infant brother Jerome Sandin.
