Charles Siggerud passed away unexpectedly in his home on the morning of December 25, 2023. Charles was born on May 27, 1942 to Kalmer and Stella (Haugrud) Siggerud at the family home in Tansem Township. His dad died before his birth, and he was raised by step dad John Swenson. He attended two different country schools through the 8th grade and then went to Barnesville High School where he graduated in 1960.
At the age of 18, Charles went to work for Haugen Masonry where he had a life long career. He was foreman on many different buildings throughout the F-M area including the Fargo Dome, Red Hawks Stadium, Cass County Jail, Horizon Middle School, Discovery School, Moorhead Water Treatment Plant, and several buildings on the Concordia College Campus, just to name a few. He would be called “1/32nd Charlie” for his keen eye while laying bricks.
On the night of Linda Henry’s graduation, Charles proposed marriage. They were married February 15th, 1964, and moved to Moorhead. While living in Moorhead, they had their first child Paulette. In 1967, they moved to their home in Hawley, MN where they have resided since. While living in Hawley they welcomed three more children into their family, Lisa, Krista, and Ryan.
Charles will be remembered for being the quiet person who the grandchildren would like to snuggle up to. At the lake he loved taking the grandkids for ice cream on the pontoon. He enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, spearing, and driving pick-ups with loud mufflers. He also took pride in his spotless vehicles and keeping well-groomed yards and flower gardens.
He was gifted with the love of his large family, four children: Paulette (Keith) Heald, of Barnesville, MN, Lisa (Mike) Hustad, of Barnesville, MN, Krista (Roger) Chounard, Hawley, MN, Ryan (Tiffany) Siggerud, of Dilworth, MN; 9 grandchildren: Lance (Talisha) Heald, Miranda (Abe) Moilan, Kevin (Louisa) Heald, Nicole (Parker) Bilden, Chandra Hustad, Austin Chounard, Dylan Chounard, Harper Siggerud, and Owen Siggerud; and 8 great grandchildren: Peyton, Paige, Kaidyn, Kolton, Emma, and Eden Heald, William and Leo Moilan; siblings Fran Beyer, John (Maggie) Swenson, Debra (Harry) Nelson, sister in law Eleanor Siggerud, brother in law Vernon Anderson, and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife Linda on May 2, 2023, his parents, siblings: Stanley Siggerud, Maxine Anderson, Virginia Klovstad, and infant sister Joyce Siggerud.
