Delores Lanning

Delores M. (Meyer) Lanning was born on February 7, 1936 to Jack and Helen Meyer in Sidney, MT.  She had an older brother David and a twin sister Beverly.  She grew up in Sidney, MT and graduated high school in 1955.  She and her sister worked at the local movie theater.  Her mother was an amazing seamstress and made many identical clothes for her and her sister.  She met her future husband DeNell at the local supper club in December of 1959 and they married in April of 1960.  They moved around for DeNell’s job and then settled in Barnesville in 1970.  Delores was a stay-at-home mom until the late 1970’s when she started to work at the Pelican Rapids Turkey plant.  She was there for many years until retiring in the early 2000’s. 

Delores enjoyed ceramics and bowling.  She was also a long-time member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Barnesville.  She has two granddaughters and loved them dearly.  Delores also had green thumbs and loved to plant flowers and kept a beautiful variety in her yard.  She also loved her dog Dakota who always brought a smile to her face.  She watched the cowboy channel faithfully especially the bull riders.  She really got into it, and it was funny to listen to her watching the rodeo.  She will be remembered as a great mom and grandma.  She and DeNell were married for 62 years.  

Delores is survived by two children:  DeAnna Jennings of Barnesville, MN, DeNell (Diann) Lanning of Rosemount, MN, two granddaughters: Danielle (Kevin) Henry of St. Peter, MN, Dayna (Mike) Scherlin of Chaska, MN, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Delores was preceded in death by her husband DeNell in 2022, brother David Meyer and sister Beverly Merrill and her parents and step dad. 

Delores Marie Lanning died on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at United Hospital in St. Paul after a battle with dementia. 

Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 6, 2023 at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville, MN with Rev. Kevin Skaret officiating.  Lunch will follow.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
