Janice (Lemke) Beckett, 91, of Barnesville, MN, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at ValleyCare and Rehab.
Janice June Lemke was born on June 21, 1928 to Louis and Hulda (Lammers) Lemke on a farm near Baker, MN. They moved into Barnesville when she was a teenager. She attended Barnesville High School and graduated in 1946. She worked for Lakie's Cafe in Barnesville while going to school.
Janice married Delbert Burl Beckett on July 21, 1946. They had three daughters: Judy, Rebecca, and Mary. She worked cutting potatoes, the Gateway potato factory and was the Avon Lady for many years. She worked at Sears in the Men's Wear and then as manager of the children's and boy's departments until her retirement.
She was a member of St. James United Church of Christ. Janice and Delbert enjoyed car rides all around the area, along with traveling in the Winebego. Janice was a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed making quilts. She won Grand Champion and People's Choice awards at the Clay County Fair. She was active and dedicated as a Campfire Leader. For many years, she enjoyed her civic duty of being an election judge. Janice was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and enjoyed the Twins caravan that stopped at ValleyCare.
She is survived by two daughters: Judy (David) Pederson of Pelican Rapids, MN, and Rebecca Beckett of Plymouth, MN; one granddaughter Margaret (Todd) Henderson of Fargo, ND; two great grandchildren: Grace and James Henderson. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband Delbert Beckett, daughter Mary Lou Beckett, and her parents, sister Marlys, brother LuVerne, and many friends and relatives.
Private family services will be held at Dobmeier Funeral Home with graveside services at Rosemound Cemetery, Barnesville, MN with Rev. Jim Greene officiating.
