Jean Mickish

Jean Mickish, age 86, of Barnesville, MN, died at the Sanford Hospice in Fargo, ND. 

A celebration of Jean’s life will be held at 11:30 AM, Friday, March 24, 2023, at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville with Rev. Chris Leach officiating.  Burial will follow in City Cemetery, Barnesville, MN. 

Visitation will be held from 10-11:30 AM on Friday. 

Jean Annette Johnson was born on June 9, 1936, to Marion and Mildred (Erickson) Johnson in Alexandria, MN.  She grew up near Nelson, MN, and attended school in Alexandria, MN.  Following high school, she attended the Swedish Institute of Nursing in the Twin Cities and became a registered nurse.   

She was united in marriage to Joseph C. Mickish on October 17, 1959, in Nelson, MN.  The couple first made their home in Kansas and later moved to San Mateo, California where they lived until 1971 when they moved to Barnesville.  They owned and operated the Standard Station in Barnesville until 1975 when Joe started trucking over the road. Jean worked most of her nursing career at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Barnesville. 

She will be remembered for sewing dresses for Dress A Girl Around the World, and blankets for the Linus Foundation.  She and Joe had their pilot licenses and enjoyed flying.  Some of her favorite pastimes included looming rugs and selling them at craft fairs all over the area.  She also enjoyed crocheting, working puzzles, reading, and making crafts and selling them at the Eagle Café.   

Jean is survived by three sons:  Joseph Jr. of Redwood Falls, MN, John (Julie) of White Bear Lake, MN, Jerry of Fargo, ND, four granddaughters: Tami, Heather, Darby, Grace, three great grandchildren: Rylie, Remington, Reagan, one brother Robert Johnson of Blaine, MN, and many nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph in 1989, her parents, brother Duane “Red” Johnson.
