Jeffrey W. Rasmussen

Sep 22, 1966 — Jul 24, 2026

Barnesville, MN

Jeffrey Rasmussen, 59, Barnesville, MN, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND. Services will be held at the Barnesville VFW on Friday, July 31, with visitation from 4-6pm, followed by a celebration of life starting at 6pm.

Jeffrey (Jeff) Rasmussen was born September 22, 1966 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Mary Anne (Bartelson) and Robert Rasmussen.

In 1975, Mary Anne moved the family to Kindred, ND where Jeff graduated from Kindred High School in 1985. Wanting to continue his education, he went to Moorhead Technical College completing his degree in Culinary Arts in 1993.

Throughout the years he worked many jobs, including the Kindred lumberyard, many area farms, construction, and factory positions.

In December of 1983, Jeff went to Wolverton where he proceeded to meet the love of his life, Sue. They were married August 16, 1986 in Wolverton, MN and made their life out there on the family farm. April of 1990, their little bundle of joy, Heidi, came along and their little family was complete. They stayed on the farm until 2009, where they moved to Barnesville and made their home.

Over the years, Jeff enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Many nights and weekends were spent throwing steel tip darts, helping with league, and setting up for tournaments especially the Freddie Prinze Memorial. He enjoyed going hunting with his in-laws and their relatives. He fell in love with bass fishing, which he would bring the family out many early weekend mornings to catch the big ones while the lake was calm. Many times he would wake up, again early mornings, and decide to take a roadtrip. Often times he would load the family up and go with no real destination in mind. His quick sense of humor was well known to everyone that knew him, and he used that humor to get through his many doctors appointments over the years. He spent several years coaching archery through 4-H, park district, and taking his daughter to many local, state, and national tournaments where he was always a silent but proud cheerleader.

In February of 2021 he got his companion Zeus from Let Love Live Rescue. At first, Zeus was meant to just be a companion, but quickly picked up on Jeff's medical issues and became a service dog alerting for medication or spells coming on. They started walking many miles around Barnesville, completing many "30 mile" monthly walks for various organizations. They also completed the Jaynie Halvorson Memorial 5k during Potato Days 3 years in a row, each time happy but tired while crossing the line.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Rasmussen, daughter Heidi (John) Mansager, his companion Zeus, mother Mary Anne Aus, brother's Mike Rasmussen and Milt Jr (Andrea) Aus, sister's Debra Schatzke and Mary Lou (Jack) Bryngelson, sister-in-law's Jean Russell, Marge Murphy, and Marion Stach-Anderson, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is proceeded in death by his father Robert Rasmussen, brother's Rick Rasmussen and Joey Rasmussen, sister Nichelle Aus, grandparents, step-dad Milt Aus, mother and father- in- law Evelyn and Bill Stach, brother-in-law's Gregory Schatzke, Mike Miller, Jerry Martin, Bill Stach, and Jerry Russell, sister-in-law's Sandy Miller and Peggy Martin, along with many dear family and friends.
