Leland E. Egge

Leland Egge, 92, died at his home in Barnesville, MN under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley and his family.

Leland Eliel Egge was born on May 22, 1929, to Henry and Edith (Hough) Egge on the home farm in rural Barnesville. He grew up on a farm in Humbolt Township and attended country school and then continued in Barnesville where he graduated from Barnesville High School in 1947.

Leland met Erma Inez Fankhanel and the couple was united in marriage on October 23, 1949, at the German Church in Barnesville. They made their home in Barnesville for the past 72 married years. Leland worked for a few places over the years including: Ray Hough Chevrolet, Kost Brothers, Over the road trucking, Les Menzie, and the Chevrolet Garage. He started Egge Motors and spent 40 years working out of his own shop on the north end of Barnesville. He was a master mechanic who was able to fix, cars, trucks, and machinery.

At a young age, Leland watched the mail plane fly over the farm, and he fell in love with flying. For the rest of his life he enjoyed airplanes and flying. International tractors were a passion for him and he loved repairing them. He also liked garage sales and sitting at the round table with his buddies at the Eagle Cafe (one French toast, blueberry syrup, and one sausage link, with 40 cups of coffee).

Leland is survived by his wife of 72 years, Erma; six children: Donna (Jay) McEvers, of Vergas, MN, Duane (Joan) Egge, of Moorhead, MN, Debbie (Keith) Ernst, of Fargo, ND, Darcy (Steve) Barry, of Barnesville, MN, David (Laura) Egge, of Barnesville, MN and Deann (Troy) Hendee, of Springfield, MO; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and 1 great great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Edith; four siblings: Lyle Egge, Harriet Ernst, Alison Glessner and Charles Egge.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 5-8 PM, at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

Funeral services for Leland will be 11:00 AM, Monday, June 7, 2021, at St. James United Church of Christ in Barnesville with Rev. Jim Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Gran Lutheran Cemetery, rural Barnesville, MN at 1:30 pm.
