Bob Wellman, 85, peacefully passed away Monday, December 25, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, MN. Bob was a devoted Catholic, who carried his cross with dignity, courage, strength, and devotion. Bob, the son of Walter and Teresa Wellman was born, May 7, 1938 in Walled Lake, Michigan. He grew up on the family farm in Deer Horn Township and attended Assumption Catholic School in Barnesville and then Barnesville High School where he graduated in 1956. He attended the University of Minnesota. He joined the Air Force in 1957 and spent four years serving his country. Bob started his 50-year career in computers with General Motors and ended it as a self-employed computer programmer/system analyst.
A man with many interests and talents, Bob enjoyed a life filled with his love and commitment to God, his wife and family. He has a passion for flying airplanes, boating, snowmobiles, motorcycles and football. He also enjoyed camping with this family.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Cathy, after 60 years of marriage. Also left to honor and cherish his memory are his children Julie (Larry) Grimmett of Gardendale, Alabama, Pam (Craig) Montplaisir, of Fargo, ND, Beth (Mike) Lindberg, of Lake Elmo, MN, seven grandchildren: Courtney (Michael) Layfield, Chase Grimmett, Zach Wigginton, Carissa Wigginton, Emily (Brian) Wereley, Jacob Lindberg, Matthew Lindberg, one great granddaughter Briggs Layfield, and one great grandson on the way, two siblings Betty Mertz of Bismarck, ND, and Judy (Dan) Thompson of Barnesville, MN, aunt Delores Tschample of Miltona, MN, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Teresa Wellman and one brother Bill Wellman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Assumption Catholic Church in Barnesville, MN with Father Augie Gothmas presiding. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery with military honors provided by the US Air Force Honor Squad and the Barnesville VFW and American Legion Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 5-8 PM, Friday, January 5, 2024 at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday.
