Leslie LeRoy “Roy” Brown, age 80, passed away, May 12, 2023. Holding the hand of his daughter, he took his last breath after losing his fight to prostate cancer and Parkinson's disease.
Roy was born October 17, 1942 in Chicago, IL to Jean and Clarence “Larry” Brown. After surviving polio as a young child, Roy grew into an energetic and happy child who enjoyed sports, which he played through his school years. After finishing high school in 1960, Roy decided to see the world and joined the Navy. He worked on the aircraft carriers the USS Coral Sea and the USS Hancock. He was a proud Vietnam veteran. During his time in the Navy, he served primarily in the Pacific and Asia. He loved experiencing places like Hong Kong, The Philippines, and Australia, acquiring six tattoos in the process.
After the Navy, he eventually settled in Barnesville, MN. He worked as a diesel mechanic and raised a family. Throughout his life, Roy enjoyed renovating his house, working on his cars, reading about WWI history, and especially helping others. He lived a quiet and content life, enjoying good books, good conversation, and adoring his granddaughter.
Roy is survived by his daughters Kimberly Brown, Amanda Brown, granddaughter Sophia Ramsey, and sister Judith Leff (Brown).
