Vernon Ira Nelson, Sr.

Vernon Ira Nelson passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023, at his home in Barnesville, MN.

Vernon Ira Nelson was born on August 12, 1943, in Portland, ND to Ira and Arlene Nelson. Vern passed away at home on Friday, September 22 2023. Vern loved to play golf and Texas hold-’em but his favorite was playing cribbage. He played 3 to 4 games a day with his daughter MeLissa until the day before his passing. He served in the Navy and was a proud veteran. Vern spent most of his adult life living in Colorado. He retired in 2007 from Bimbo Bakery and he loved road trips. He had an amazing laugh and was a truly great man. He is survived by his siblings Roger (Shirley) Nelson, Kay Olstad, Harvey (Mary)Nelson, Clayton (Brenda) Nelson his six children Elizabeth (Bob) Evans, Christine (Carl) Knipe, Cathleen (Aaron Kringler) Adams, Vernon (Cintia Armstrong) Nelson Jr, Mindy (Dane) Nickell and MeLissa (Bob) Nelson-Power. Vern had 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Vern is preceded in death by father Ira Nelson, Mother Arlene Nelson, brother-in-law Gary Olstad and grandson Cody Wood.
