Myrtle A Wagner

October 25, 1927 — April 4, 2015

Myrtle A. Wagner, age 87, a resident of Barnesville died at Essentia Health in Fargo on Saturday, April 4, 2015. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM, Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Dobmeier Funeral Home with a Prayer Service 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be 11:00 am, Friday, April 10, 2015 at St. James United Church of Christ in Barnesville, MN with Pastor Wendy Ward officiating. Myrtle Adrienne Haarstad was born on October 25, 1927 to Rudolph Paul and Cora Hermine (Huseby) Haarstad in Tansem Township. She grew up in rural Barnesville before her family moved to town. She attended country school and graduated from Barnesville High School in 1947. As a young woman she worked as a switch board operator in the telephone office. She was united in marriage to Roy E. Wagner on April 30, 1949 and the couple made their home in Barnesville. She started college having five children to raise; at Moorhead State College in 1963, graduating in 1969. Her husband always said, "he had 5 children and 6 in school". In her beginning teaching years, she worked as a substitute teacher before beginning a longtime career as a 5th and 6th grade para professional in 1970 at Atkinson Elementary School in Barnesville. She retired in 1995. Myrtle enjoyed playing cards, crafts, painting, drawing, and playing bingo. As a side line, she made wedding cakes for many years, and made nail head pictures and string pictures. Family and community were important to her and she kept numerous binders and books with the history of family and community. She has documented for many years each graduating class. Her love of family was the joy in her life. She was a member of St. James United Church of Christ, the Guild, and a life member of the VFW Auxiliary. She is survived by five children: Rita Nosal, Barnesville, MN, David (Carla) Wagner, Rosemont, MN, Natalie (Bob) Fix, Buffalo, MN, Carolyn (Bill) Gabel, Barnesville and Karen (LeRoy) Johnson, Barnesville; 12 grandchildren: Paul Nosal, Rebecca (Shaun) Struck, Paula (Ray) Staffa, Daniel (Lisa) Wagner, Ron (Rosalie) Fix, Kristine (Jesse Miller) Fix, Stephanie Fix, Bob Fix Jr., Chanda (Nathan Leverson) Christianson, William (Alycia) Gabel Jr., Carrie Johnson and Blaine (Tiffany) Johnson; great grandchildren: Dalton, Noah, and Jack Struck, Raymond, Lily and David Staffa, Adalia and Kian Wagner, Samantha and Ethan Nuss, Cora Fix, Lindsay Christianson, Brayden Leverson and Evelyn and William Gabel III. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy in November of 1988; her parents; son-in-law John Nosal Sr; grandson John Jr; two great grandchildren: Sylvia Fix and Dominic Fix; brother Rudolph Haarstad; sister Junette Carr; and an infant brother.
