Sherwood P. Anderson

July 7, 1938 — April 9, 2017

Sherwood Anderson, 78, died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at his residence on Pelican Lake, Pelican Rapids, MN.         Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Rollag Lutheran Church in Rollag, MN with Rev. Jim Greene officiating.  Burial will follow in Rollag Lutheran Cemetery.       Visitation will be 5-8 PM, Wednesday, April 12, 2017 with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM at Dobmeier Funeral Home in Barnesville, MN.  Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the funeral service.    Sherwood Philip Anderson was born on July 7, 1938 to Alfred “Fritz” Nordal Anderson and Lillian Ione (Anderson) Anderson in Barnesville, MN.  He was baptized and confirmed at Rollag Lutheran Church.  He attended country school near Rollag #77 and graduated from Barnesville High School in 1956.  As a young man, Sherwood was a partner in the Rollag Implement during the 1960’s.  He was an excellent mechanic and could fix anything.  He enjoyed racing sprint cars; #2 “the flying deuce,” sponsored by City Cab in Moorhead.  He won the state of North Dakota Sprint Car Races in West Fargo.  Sherwood began farming with his Dad in 1968.  He was the fourth generation to farm the land. This was his lifetime work.  Besides farming, he also had several other jobs and also owned a Polaris dealership.  He drove truck for Kost Brothers and Marlin Evenson.  He served as superintendent of the golf course in Hawley for about 6 years in the late 1990’s.    He later worked for his cousin Virg installing security equipment.  Sherwood was united in marriage to Sandra “Sandy” Jane Tabbut on April 12, 1969 at the Congregational Church in Pelican Rapids.  Sherwood enjoyed his hunting shack with three buddies for over 40 years near Itasca.  He also liked to bowl, play pool at the pool hall in Pelican, golf, softball, was a ham radio operator N0ASD and enjoyed woodworking. He has been a lifetime member of the Rollag Lutheran Church.  He loved dogs and his most recent faithful companion was Harley.  For over a dozen years, Sandy and Sherwood wintered in Arizona.  In July of 2002, they moved from the family farm to Pelican Lake.  Sherwood was an avid motorcycle enthusiast.  His first Harley-Davidson was a 1948 model.  They made 15 trips through the Bear Tooth Pass. Sherwood was a member of the Harley owners group in Fargo.   He made several trips to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and last summer he made that trip with his family.  He enjoyed watching the birds, boating, and fishing.   He is survived by his wife Sandy, Pelican Rapids; daughter Sheila (Chad) Byram, Sabin, MN; two grandchildren: Christian and Madison Byram; sister Lois (Gene) Bakko, Northfield, MN; brother Glenn Anderson, Fergus Falls; step mother Avella Anderson, Rollag; aunt Ethel Turner, Fair Oaks, CA; brothers and sisters-in-law: Alen (Peggy) Tabbut, Menomonie, WI; Gerald (Bonnie) Tabbut, Willmar, MN; Paul (Judy) Tabbut, Pelican Rapids; Judy (Steve) Huls, St. Joseph, MN; and several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.  Memorial Folder
